Augrabes River Canyon, Northern State Province, South Africa

A shot from the ridge of Augrabes Canyon, in the Northern State Province of South Africa,near the border with Namibia. Almost dry from a long rainless winter, the Orange river is green with algae in what little water remains. This was one of my first close-up glimpses at a parched and semi-arid part of Africa where ancient rock has been exposed by a millennium of erosion and floods.
