  • A Red Lechwe peers at us intently as we pass on by in our riverboat. If you've never been to the Delta, it is a very challenging place to photograph most thiings. The waterways are lined with incredibly tall reeds, some 10 feet or more tall. The banks, as you can see in this image are also obscured by tall grasses that grow in proximity to the water, making a clear shot of most any animal near impossible.
  • Great White Egrets wait patiently for the spawning Barbel fish to approach and push thousands of small fish to the shallow part of the bank for them to eat.

  • A hippo found about 2 hours out of Maun, Botswana as we started our1 month visit to the Okavango Delta. He was part of a pod of about 18 Hippos,none of whom were pleased to see us. He made it abundanltly clear we were not welcome in his pond, so we wisely moved on.

  • This female was less bothered by us than many of her family. Even though they are surrounded by hundreds of kilometers of water, they still cover themselves with dirt and mud to keep the insects away. There were thousands of Mosquitoes here in October, a real problem for a photographer trying to keep Deet off of your camera and lens guards.
